I can pick subjects just as fast using C1's Magic Brush and refine the selection using a Luma Mask. I keep an eye on Lr (as I have it with my Lr / Ph subscription), and the AI is impressive, but it's not perfect many times, it doesn't pick the subject very well. The limitation is B&W some styles and presets are unavailable, but many are. Then right-click on the layer and navigate to Apply Adjustments > Custom Styles (or Built-in Styles, Built-in Presets, Custom Presets ) and select the style or preset you want. I find C1 does a better job for my needs.īut it does have that all you have to do is create an empty layer and add a gradient to the layer. I have used Lr since it was originally released I'm very glad to have gotten away from it as I never really liked it's tool layout. If you like Lr, then use Lr! Not sure what the complaint is as Lr doesn't even have true layers it uses stacked masks which are conceptually layers.

That’s why you buy a perpetual license and update every few years. There’s rarely anything significant in any version. You realize it’s been around longer than Lightroom?īut it’s like they threw together a few features a week before release and then thought no one would notice that there’s nothing significant in the new version. I want C1 to complete with LIghtroom because we need that competition. I can’t save different workspaces for different tasks. I can’t rearrange tool panels, customize them, make my own, or move them to the other side. Congrats to LR for finally getting at least some type of layers interface for the local adjustments, but it’s pretty horrible - much too small and cramped. You still don’t have access to all the tools when making local adjustments. Tethering is still a horrible experience. I disagree that they are much needed or that Lightroom is further ahead. Source: 20 years of experience teaching C1 to a broad variety of working professionals in both large and medium cities, and producing the only truly masters-level online class on C1.įirst they ignore the much-needed Ai features in Capture One 23, letting Lightroom pull even further ahead But the generalizations are generally true.Īll of these categories are “professional photographers” so depending on what you mean by that term you are all correct. In general the rate of tethering is higher in cities like LA, NYC, and Miami than in cities like Minneapolis, owing to the resources such as digital techs, rental houses, assistants, and workshops in addition to generally higher rates being charged.

Though it’s more somewhat more common in astronomy-related and time-lapse landscape shooters.Įven the specifics above are still broad generalizations with plenty of exceptions at both individual level and at a geographical and institutional level. “Fine-art landscape photographers making a considerable portion of their income from selling prints” rarely tether. Though at the very high-end they may tether at a low rate for assignments like Environmental Portraiture. “Newspaper Photojournalists” almost never tether. “Wedding photographers” tether at a low rate in the studio, and near zero rate in the field. “Commercial photographers specializing in fashion and beauty” tether at a near 100% rate in the studio and a high rate in the field. The higher-end the photographer the more likely they are to tether in this category. “Commercial photographers specializing in portraits” tether at a high rate in the studio and a low rate in the field. “Commercial photographers specializing in product” tether at a very high rate, both at the low end and high end.

“Professional” is a vague and broad term. Does Capture One have much time left as a relevant contender? And since processing on C1 is no longer better than in LR even on Fuji files. As they continue to ignore customer requests and the competition. But it's getting hard as LR is so far ahead. But it's like they threw together a few features a week before release and then thought no one would notice that there's nothing significant in the new version.įor my part, I keep doing my best to create videos and content for my C1 friends. The layers Styles feature we've been asking for for years is nearly useless since it does not allow any gradients or useful layer features, something Lightroom has let us save into presets for years. First they ignore the much-needed Ai features in Capture One 23, letting Lightroom pull even further ahead, then acting like an Auto/ish White Balance/ Exposure feature is a big deal. I just finished a video on my channel for LR vs C1 with the latest version of both.
